Seagate Provides Disc Drive Technology for Digital Recordable Audio Jukebox From Perception
Seagate Strengthens Its Consumer Electronics Market Share Leadership With Its Award-Winning U Series Disc Drive
HONG KONG, May 23 - Seagate Technology, the world's leading disc drive supplier for the consumer market, announced today that its U Series disc drive has been integrated into the PDHercules Digital Recordable Jukebox ("PDHercules") from Perception Digital Limited. PDHercules is a new generation digital jukebox audio system, and is one of the first to employ a specialized Digital Signal Processing (DSP) chip.
Seagate's Consumer Electronics Testing and Engineering Center (CETEC) offers a variety of testing, integration and mechanical analysis services to help customers design drive-capable consumer electronics devices. These services are available to key OEM customers and technology solution providers such as Perception Digital as part of Seagate's partnership qualification business model.

With the PDHercules, MP3 compression is now available without the use of a computer in a mass-market consumer product. The PDHercules compresses music from CD, cassette tape, vinyl record or other format into MP3 files and stores them on the built-in Seagate hard drive. Music from 500 of your favorite CDs is available at your fingertips for future playback. Music is stored via Perception Digital's patent pending Rapid Archive System using only 1/6 of the playing time -- a 60 minute CD will take less than 10 minutes to be stored on the PDHercules. Its simple, user-friendly interface is equipped with many special functions, including Smart Search engine which lets you find music by song name, artist and album name. SmartMedia(TM) card compatibility enables music portability.
The U Series disc drive family is designed specifically for use in consumer electronics, Internet appliances, volume PCs and terminal-based environments. The U Series is available in a unique consumer electronics configuration, the U Series AV, for superior A/V streaming, quiet data seeks and reduced power use. Featuring its exclusive "sound barrier technology" (SBT), Seagate's U Series is the world's quietest hard drive for Personal Video Recorders and other consumer electronics devices. U Series drives are also the toughest in the industry thanks to Seagate's 3D Defense System, including SeaTools, SeaShell, SeaShield and G-Force Protection.
