MTT Selects iMagicTV Software to Enable Deployment of Interactive Television Service to Halifax Customers

SAINT JOHN, NEW BRUNSWICK, CANADA - January 17, 2000 - iMagicTV, a leading provider of interactive digital television software for service providers worldwide, today announced that Maritime Telephone & Telegraph (MTT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Canada-based Aliant Inc., and headquartered in Nova Scotia, has selected iMagicTV's DTV Manager software to deliver interactive television services to its customers in the Halifax Regional Area. The services will include a full programming line-up with digital picture and CD-quality sound, an interactive programming guide, e-mail capability and high-speed Internet access.

Pending Canadian Radio-Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) approval, MTT's interactive television services are expected to be available for Halifax Regional Municipality residents in late 2000 with plans to expand to other areas of the area in the following year.

"iMagicTV has been working diligently to offer digital television solutions to telecommunications companies (telcos) around the world for about two years now. Telephone service providers are currently deploying commercial offerings of multiple services that include television," said Marcel LeBrun, president and CEO of iMagicTV. "iMagicTV's DTV Manager software solution is helping telcos, like MTT, deliver the kinds of applications that make the consumer's television entertainment experience more personal by customizing their channel line up and subscribing for the channels they want from a potentially unlimited number of channels, browsing the Internet, checking e-mail and watching pay-per-view movies instantly without having to make a phone call to customer service."

By deploying iMagicTV's software throughout the Halifax Regional Municipality, MTT will offer customers a truly innovative choice for their telecommunications and entertainment needs. "MTT has been a leader in providing its customers with the best possible telecommunications services for close to 100 years," said Wendy Paquette, president, MTT. "By adopting iMagicTV's innovative digital television technology, MTT will offer customers one service that provides both high-speed Internet access and interactive television. iMagicTV's DTV Manager makes providing these services economical because it allows us to leverage our existing copper infrastructure by quickly and easily delivering new programming options to consumers and by helping us compete in the marketplace."

iMagicTV is empowering service providers around the world to offer innovative TV services, giving the consumer unprecedented convenience, choice and control of their entertainment experience. DTV Manager is based on IP and uses xDSL and other high-speed broadband technologies to turn copper telephone lines into high-speed digital connections.
