The Industry Standard reports, "AOL has been preparing for the eventuality that several different
technological platforms will reach mass-market stature in the coming years. Hughes, which has 7
million DirecTV consumers, could help AOL move beyond dial-up access on two fronts: DirecTV
set-top boxes could be retrofitted to work with AOL TV, an interactive television service due to
launch next year, and the DirecPC satellite service could allow AOL Plus, a high-speed DSL service,
to reach parts of the country that would otherwise lose out on broadband access. Ultimately, AOL
will be able to offer its service on Spaceway, a two-way, satellite-enabled consumer broadband service
that Hughes is developing, due to launch in 2002."

- NetGame announces high-speed, in-room hotel internet access product via laptops and set-tops to be displayed at HITEC 99 (6-16-99) (Business Wire)
The NetGame report says,
"NetGame Ltd., a fast-growing Israeli-based company that plans a future IPO, with installations in well
over 20 countries, announced today that it would be exhibiting its NetHotel product at Microsoft
Corporation's HITEC booth. Microsoft will be dedicating part of its HITEC booth to include
Microsoft-based in-room Internet applications, among them NetGame Ltd."
Microsoft business services manager Gary Cooke said,
"Microsoft is dedicated to creating advanced platform technologies that help improve the way
business is conducted either on the road or in the office. We're pleased to see NetGame leverage our
platform to develop and deploy a robust in-room Internet service solution that addresses remote access

There are people who are interested in Microsoft and WebTV activities
in the hospitality industry and similarly related vertical businesses. For instance, with the possibilities
presented by Microsoft TV and the future evolution of the WebTV product, set-top competitors may nervously
wonder, among other things, about Microsoft opening up the WebTV default home pages for
customization by vertical businesses and for affinity programs
