The Wall Street Journal reports, "Among the companies [EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen] has sought to enlist in his bid
are AOL Time Warner Inc. and General Electric Co., according to people familiar with his strategy. But it isn't clear what
commitments he has received or how many other companies he has approached." Later reports indicate that SBC and BellSouth
were also asked to take part in a possible Echostar-DirecTV deal. Comparing the possible Echostar deal and the News Corp deal,
in the second related news item, MediaGuardian reports on the show-me-the-money factor: "A major sticking point in the deal with
Mr Murdoch's News Corporation empire is the lack of cash for GM shareholders, and EchoStar has more money to
offer than News Corp."
