"WHERE IS THE CREATIVE VIDEO BLASTER DIGITAL VCR CARD?"
(Updated: May 15, 2003)
The Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card was a hot seller. From what I understand, the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card had healthy sales during 2002 and continuing through the first half of 2003. Due to the card being frequently sold out in 2002, this caused rumors in 2002 that the card was no longer being made. At that time, my official contact at Creative Labs told me that the card "would be back" later in 2002 and it did "come back." When the card came back, there were numerous rebate sales for the card running through the end of 2002, and then again a few more rebate sales in 2003, and then Creative Labs had a blow-out sale with a price-drop to move out the remaining supply in May 2003. At this time, don't be surprised if you cannot find the card available anywhere.
To give you more of an idea as to how well the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card had been doing, take a look at what happened during the months of October, November, and December 2002. The Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card went back in stock at the official Creative Labs website at the beginning of October 2002. Then the card quickly went out of stock for online sales again on October 9, 2002. Something like this happened early in 2002 when the inventory quickly sold out and then it was a little while before another shipment came in. At the time, my contact at Creative Labs then told me that another shipment "is in transit and should arrive sometime in October." And then, CompUSA started a nationally advertised one-week sale for the card for on October 12, 2002 -- so, there was probably an online embargo for sales of the card at the official Creative Labs website for that particular week to give CompUSA something like a one-week exclusive for selling the cards during the month of the October. So, apparently, I'm guessing that a whole bunch of the cards from the initial shipment went to brick-and-mortar stores like CompUSA leaving only a certain number of the cards for online sales. So, it's not surprising that the initial batch for online sales in October went out of stock. Then on October 19, 2002, the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card became available again for online sales at the official Creative Labs website. And then about a week or so later, they were no longer in stock online at the Creative Labs website. Beginning November 14, 2002, the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card was available once again in stock for online sales at the official Creative Labs website. Then for an after-Thanksgiving sale, CompUSA again had a nationally-advertised two-day sale of the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card on November 29-30, 2002. Then from December 5, 2002 to December 18, 2002, Creative Labs has also had a rebate sale for online purchases of the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card. CompUSA then again included the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card in one of CompUSA's national newspaper advertisement supplements for the week of January 18, 2003 to January 25, 2003. Creative Labs then again had another rebate sale for online purchases of the card from January 28, 2003 to February 10, 2003. And yet again, CompUSA had another national newspaper advertisement for a sale from February 15, 2003 to February 22, 2003 where the sale included the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card. And then Creative Labs had a blow-out sale with a price drop to $59.99 from May 5, 2003 to May 11, 2003 to move out the remaining supply of the card. If you didn't get the card at the Creative Labs online store or at CompUSA, then it will not be surprising if you can't find the card anywhere.
To give more of an indication that Creative Labs is apparently closing out the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card is that the folks at Creative Labs are said to be "expiring" the 468x60 banner on the CJ/Qksrv network for the Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR card on June 11, 2003 which would apparently be one month after the cards have finally been sold out.
FYI, you really want the card, and I wouldn't blame you since I personally think it is a great card worth getting, you can always try looking for the card over on
Ebay.
Don't expect cut-rate prices for the card when an auction ends on Ebay -- note: bidding prices tend to increase rapidly the closer you get to the end of an auction on Ebay. Below is a javascript-automated list from Ebay that may show possible auction(s) for the "Creative Video Blaster Digital VCR" card, other "Creative Labs" products, and other products (related or not) that Ebay may automatically put on the list:
